Sculpture (bed disposal bag, wood, cardboard, stained mattress cover) (2016)
Disability justice activist Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha has said in their essay "Crip Emotional Intelligence," that part of a disabled reality is the understanding that "beds are worlds." This sculpture was inspired by happening upon mattresses stacked on the sidewalks of New York City. Stained and shaped by bodily fluids and weights, they are intimate traces of some of our most vulnerable moments, exposed for all to see.
