Relief Sculpture Triptych
This piece is part of a series about baby blankets as fetish objects. First, an image of the artist’s baby blanket was scanned, and meticulously traced in Photoshop. Then, the file was vectorized and converted into a three-dimensional rendering. Using a CNC mill, the rendering was then carved into three Plexiglas panels, each 15″ x 22″ x 1/2.” The final panels were laid flat on a rectangular plinth covered with burgundy velvet. White-on-white embossings of the carved image were created by pressing hand-made paper into the crevices of the relief. Progress shots of the tracings were taken at various stages, and then integrated into a short animation, and a suite of silkscreen prints, which were printed on the reverse of semi-translucent Yupo.
